Thunderbolt Fishing Club

Thunderbolt Fishing Club was established in 1976, and has recently celebrated their 40th year.
 
It is a family oriented group. We have men, women, junior and sub-junior categories.
We meet the 1st Tuesday night of each month at 7:30pm, at the Uralla Bowling Club.
Our AGM is 1st Tuesday in November (unless it’s Melbourne Cup Day)
 
We have fishing competitions against other local fishing clubs and are always looking for new clubs to fish against. Currently we fish against the following clubs:
St. Kilda from Armidale, Baitwasters from Uralla, and Walcha Club from Walcha.
We also have fishing outings amongst our own club. We have recently introduced Ocean Estuary fishing.

  • First Tuesday of the month

Activity Details:
  • The Club participates in two organised trips each year, with all members invited to attend. These trips are generally held in December and February.
  • The December trip is held in conjunction with their Christmas Party and the Catch and Release Competition at Copeton Dam, Bundarra.
  • The February trip is held at different locations.
  • The Club’s Presentation Night is held every November at the Uralla Bowling Club (where it can be said that you will get a great night out and a huge feed of prawns! Courtesy of the Fishing Club!)


Community Involvement:

  • Restocking Programs: The Fishing Club is partnered with the State Government, in iniatives to restock various waterways. The Fishing Club purchase a variety of juvenile fish, where the State Government matches their purchases dollar for dollar.
  • Inter-Competitions: The Fishing Club competes annually with the other local Fishing Club in a variety of Fishing and non Fishing activities. These competitions are also events were the funds are raised for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and other organisaitons.
  • Westpac Rescue Helicopter Fund-raising: The Fishing Club hosts an annual community fund-raising day, Fishies versus Firies, with all proceeds going to the Westpac Helicopter Service
  • Movember Fund-raising: The Fishing Club was involved with the Uralla Bowlo Movember fund-raising. The Club formed a team and registered nine Mo Bros to participate in the growing and money raising, including a huge donation from the Fishing itself. The Club conducted their own raffle, rafflling a trailer load of wood, and all proceeds from the raffle were also offered as a donation.
